Late rains caused multiple rain delays but the men’s fourth round finished on scheduled with Daniil Medvedev closing things out just after 1:30am defeating Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-2.

Earlier, defending champ Carlos Alcaraz kept rolling dismissing Australian Open semifinalist Tommy Paul in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Alcaraz lost only 7 points on first serve and faced just one break chance swatting that away. The teen earned early breaks in both sets. Paul missed his lone break chance with Alcaraz serving for the set.

Alcaraz reaches his 21st career quarterfinal. His 7th at the Masters level, and 2nd straight at the Miami Masters.

“I feel at home here. It is easy to play here in Miami with all the energy I receive every day,” Alcaraz said to the ATP. “I am enjoying myself and I think that is the key to playing at such a high level every match. I hope to keep going.”

14th-seeded Karen Khachanov shocked the 2nd-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(7-4), 6-4. The big Russian dominated on serve losing 11 total points on serve and he never was broken.

The Greek had two chances two break in the middle of the first but both were answered with aces.

Khachanov is into his first Miami quarterfinal and 5th at the Masters level. He had lost 23 straight to Top 10 players until Tuesday!

“They say third time is a charm, but for me it took seven times, so I’m super happy,” said Khachanov. “Not most importantly that I beat Stefanos, but I think with the way I’m playing. After the Australian Open, I had some issue with an injury. I came back in Dubai without having played many matches and I’m just happy to continue that level.”

Former runner-up Jannik Sinner set off the 6th-seeded Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4. American No. 1 Taylor Fritz had a nice win eliminating the 7th-seeded Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4. Former semifinalist Francisco Cerundolo overcame Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. (Emil Ruusuvuori upset No. 26 seed Botic Van De Zandschulp 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 and qualifier Christopher Eubanks of the United States kept his dream week going ousting Adrian Mannarino 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-5).

The Wednesday schedule features the start of quarterfinal action with No. 1 Alcaraz taking on No. 9 Fritz in a first-time tour-level clash.

“I played a really great match and I hope to play the same level in the quarterfinal,” Alcaraz said of his fourth round performance. “I moved well and defended well and I counter-attacked and I think if I play at that same level, I will have a lot of chances to get through.”

Said Fritz, “I think that a lot of people, a lot of people are really excited for that too. We have never played each other. I think it’s an interesting matchup. Obviously he’s playing great lately, and he had some injuries but hasn’t missed a beat. He’s been just on fire.”

Sinner squares off against Ruusuvuori with the Italian having won all four of tour-level head-to-head meetings, most recently at the Monte Carlo Masters last year.
