Carlos Alcaraz‘s 2024 European clay debut has been put on hold. The 20-year-old withdrew today from the Monte Carlo Masters with a right arm injury.

He tweeted, “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! 🥲 I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year!

Alcaraz, who won Indian Wells and made the semifinals in Miami, was slated to face Sebastian Korda in his opener.

Alcaraz also withdrew from Monte Carlo last year with hand and back pain. Alcaraz has played Monte Carlo just once losing in his first match in 2022.

He will be replaced in the draw by Italian lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego.
