The was a wild Friday with Carlos Alcaraz violently breaking a racquet in a 3-set stunning loss to Gael Monfils. And then electronic line calling system completely went off line during the early stages of the Ben SheltonFabian Marozsan match.

At night, the chair umpire failed to see a double bounce on match point which gave the win to Jack Draper over Felix Auger-Aliassime. After a 6-minute discussion at net, there was no replay and no change to the outcome.

Plus a few rain showers sprinkled in and a Tiafoe win at the buzzer over Jiri Lehecka that finished at 1:08am.

So what’s in store on Saturday? It’s a full slate of quarterfinals.

The women’s quarterfinals see tournament favorite Iga Swiatek taking on teen Mirra Andreeva. Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek’s project opponent in the final, faces Liudmila Samsonova. Canadian champ Jessica Pegula faces Leylah Fernandez and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova collides with Paula Badosa.

In the men’s quarters, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner got a walkover Friday from Jordan Thompson, now he’ll face Andre Rublev.

Alexander Zverev meets Ben Shelton in a first-time meeting. Jack Draper takes on Holger Rune and Frances Tiafoe will battle Hubert Hurkacz.

Zverev is the lone former champion left in either draw. The women will see two first-time Cincinnati finalists.

Gael managed to do one thing with Carlos Alcaraz he never managed to do against Djokovic.

Beat him! And Gael is older than Djokovic! 38 Sept 1.
Gael by being good enough to get to later rounds got to face Novak regularly and set the ATP H2H record, in a bad way. 0-19. And he is a riot when talking about that.

I want that 20th match between the two legends of tennis. And Gael deserves “legend” status for his personality, insane speed, impossible shots, doing spontaneous crazy stuff at times. A crowd magnet anywhere he goes. One of the 10 most recognized men on tour the last 20 years. Just as fellow Frenchman Fabrice Santoro was in his time and he play until 37.

As retirement watch proceeds concerning Djokovic and speculation about him not winning as much goes on – enjoy the twilight of Monfils and Wawrinka. Not winning but still into the work as long as they can feel they are competing, with skill.

Novak hasn’t ruled out joining them in his approach to not being what he used to be, few trophies coming, but still having great moments and victories. He admired Andy Murray a great deal for liking what he did for a time so much that he tried 100% to persevere, take the pain, and maybe come back.. Didn’t happen, but the bravery and effort did not go unnoticed by any guy following his frustrating comeback tries. .

Funny, no comments on scumbag behaviour of Draper and chair umpire?!

All credit to FAA, real gentleman behaviour 👍
