2024 Paris Masters Day 6: Zverev v Rune, Humbert v Khachanov SFs
Just three former champions began at the Paris Masters, and after a load of upsets, incredibly two of the three remain — Holger Rune and Karen Khachanov — with another semifinalist in Alexander Zverev who made the finals.
Ugo Humbert made his name for the French reaching the semifinals, as well.
Rune ousted the Turin-hopeful Alex de Minaur in a big match for the Australian who fell 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
De Minaur will stay in 8th place after the week while Rune kept his slim Turin chances alive — he’ll have to win Paris and do well next week.
Rune will now face Alexander Zverev who ousted Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4. The Greek once led 5-1 in this rivalry, it’s been even since at 5-5.
“I thought the whole match was a very good level from him,” Zverev said. “He started off hot, had some good chances to break me in the beginning. Maybe not break point wise but game wise. I got into the match and I found my rhythm and felt more and more comfortable and am happy with the win.”
Zverev has won two of three against the Dane including a 5-setter this year at the French Open.
“Sascha and I had a great match in Paris, where he took it in five. I beat him one time, he took me last time,” Rune said of Zverev. “He is one of the best players this year, so I will have to be very well prepared and physically recover and build on the level from this match.”
In the other semifinal, Karen Khachanov blunted Grigor Dimitrov‘s post-season aspirations. The Russian will face home French favorite Humbert who backed up the Carlos Alcaraz win by knocking out Jordan Thompson.
