The ATP Finals opens Sunday in Turin, Italy with home favorite Jannik Sinner leading the action against debutant Alex de Minaur.

Sinner, who already has the year-end No. 1 clinched, hasn’t played since winning the Shanghai Masters a month ago. The 2-time Slam winner says he’s excited to play at home.

“Being an Italian and playing in Italy. I haven’t played in Italy this year, because I missed Rome. That was a really tough one, but I am even more excited and happy to be here,” Sinner told the ATP.

Sinner has won all seven meetings with de Minaur.

“Alex is a bit different as a player. He is a very solid, very fast mover, a great mentality,” he said. “You have to win every point somehow. He is not going to give it to you, so you have to go for it. With the work ethic he has, he deserves to be in the position he is in.

“He won’t hold back, he will keep improving as a player, and it’s nice to see him here. The first time is always very special. You see something new, you feel less pressure because it’s the first time. So, let’s see what’s coming.”

Former champion Daniil Medvedev will open against US Open finalist Taylor Fritz who comes in off his best season.

“With Taylor, it’s pretty crazy because we’ve both been Top 10 for like three years and we kind of started to be on Tour at the same time and we’ve only played each other one time, which is crazy,” Medvedev told the ATP.

The two met just once a few years ago with Medvedev winning.
