Kim Sears might be the happiest woman in the world today. News has broken that her husband, Andy Murray, won’t home in retirement as much as previously thought. The former No. 1 figures to be back on tennis tour, earning money, and serving as, of all things, coach to Novak Djokovic.

“They called us game changers, risk takers, history makers,” Djokovic said of his relationship with Murray. “I thought our story might be over, turns out it has one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome aboard, coach… Andy Murray.”

Born just a few weeks apart, the two have come up through the tour together. Though Djokovic outclassed the Brit Murray was able to collect his two Slam titles over Djokovic.

“I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the off-season, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open,” Murray said to the BBC.

“I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.”

Murray retired from the game at Wimbledon while Djokovic failed to win a Slam in 2024. He’ll go again to make history and win a 25th next year under the eye of Murray.

Actually I love the idea, that’s going to be fun to watch and Andy will find out how it feels when the player abuses his box, can’t wait to see their first match together, very refreshing approach, and no, I don’t expect any big results but definitely lot of fun 👍😂

One thing I do not like at all about Novak is his yelling at and at times bullying his Team members. Marian and Goran were OK in interviews saying Novak can be “difficult” at times (but still a great caring guy, overall).

BTW, really nice montage Novak posted of their years as rivals, respected one another a lot, and were occasionally friends.

I still enjoy that story Judy Murray told about the 1st time Novak came over when the two were 11 and clearly “had it” and were under scrutiny as future college players, even pro singles players.
Murray picks Novak up while his dad goes to London to see if he can locate sponsors – and she drives Novak over to courts where Andy was already playing. Noted that Djokovic was really good in English (even then). She goes by an hour and a half later with water, checking on how the kids were doing, finding them playing well, but using hand signals. Andy’s thick Scottish brogue was incomprehensible to Novak, and of course Andy spoke now Serb. So they had worked out weird but clever hand signals. Next time the two kids met, Novak had figured out the accent.

Interesting combination, curious to see how things work out

What the hell can Andy teach the Faker that he doesn’t already know? Wonder what’s going on! Too stupid to be true yet here we are. Scholar running before the master I would say!

Alison hodge Says:

If he wins all 4 GS next year like Laura Robson thinks, then it won’t matter if it’s Andy or my next door neighbour coaching him, I’m sure all we be rosy in the garden

Giles Says:

No need to wonder why. He was prolly injured!

Even though Rafa did well enough off clay to be in the Hall of Fame without clay, he was not the all-round player that Federer and Djokovic were.
Rafa’s inability to perform with consistent excellence off clay meant much less weeks at #1 than Novak or Roger, many events he never won – notably the ATP Finals. He performed abysmally indoors.
That takes Nadal out of most GOAT discussions. While fans say excellence on 1 surface alone, one skillset makes Nadal GOAT – the same argument could be make by fans that believe excellence in another skillset, serving, makes John Isner the GOAT.

The future likely means less clay courts as owners want arenas, even practice areas, convertable to other uses, from other sports to conventions. Clay will only be “normal” in some European nations and certain countries in South American and losing ground there to hardcourt surfaces that can accommodate multi-uses. NOt losing ground as fast as grass courts, but the sign’s of clay’s marginalization are there.

Wog Boy Says:

Well, the GOAT has spoken, “the system” won’t be liking what he said today in Brisbane about two #1 players testing positive simultaneously in the same year and the way it was handled….you can google it.
