Australian Open quarterfinals on Monday, with the Swiss lining up a meeting with American
James Blake.
Federer defeated No. 13 seed
Tomas Berdych, 6-4, 7-6(7), 6-3 in under two hours.
"It throws off your rhythm a little bit, playing a five-setter," said Federer about his previous round. "I like this one today better. I'm quite pleased with the result, pulling up from a tough match."
Federer will next face Blake, who defeated the Croat
Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Blake will appear in his first-ever Aussie Open quarterfinal.
Djokovic topped
Lleyton Hewitt 7-5, 6-3, 6-3, and has yet to drop a set at the event.
Another winner Monday was
David Ferrer who beat fellow Spaniard
Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
