Novak Djokovic Still Unconfirmed For The Australian Open
With just two weeks until the Australian Open begins, Novak Djokovic is still unconfirmed to play in the event he has won nine times.
The World No. 1 entered the event but Australia requires visitors to be vaccinated, and it appears Djokovic is not.
Tournament head Craig Tiley spoke earlier today saying there was “quite a bit to play out” regarding the Serb’s entry, suggesting Djokovic is trying to obtain a medical exemption, which some players have already received. But either Djokovic’s application was rejected by the medical panel or it’s still in review, or has been appealed, if possible.
“As far as the status relates to Novak, we will have a much clearer picture in the coming days,” Tiley said. “Otherwise it’s getting pretty late for him to show up and play in the Australian Open.”
Tiley added charter flights will be coming until the end of the week marking would could be the last chance for players to make the field.
Djokovic, who has not publicly disclosed his vaccination status, is reported to be training in Spain in preparation for Melbourne.
