Nadal, Roddick Lead Men in Second Round Australian Open Tennis Action

Posted on January 15, 2008

No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal bids to maintain his record of always reaching the third round here, when he takes on Florent Serra for the first time. The Frenchman has never advanced beyond the second round at a major.

Kooyong champion Andy Roddick attempts to maintain his great start to the year. Having not dropped a set yet this year, the American has a first career meeting with Michael Berrer. The German is making his third successive second round appearance at a major.

Nicolas Mahut hopes his first ever five-set victory on Monday will provide him with a confidence boost when he takes on world No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko. The Russian has reached the quarterfinals here for the last three years.

Tommy Robredo, who came back from two-sets-to-love down in the first round, has a fifth career meeting with 2007 quarterfinalist Mardy Fish, who he defeated at this stage in last year’s US Open.

Qualifier Sam Warburg in just his second major takes on Jo Wilfried Tsonga, the Frenchman who upset No. 9 seed Andy Murray in the first round.

No. 8 seed Richard Gasquet aims to maintain his perfect record against Feliciano Lopez. The Frenchman has won all three of their previous meetings.

Auckland champion Philipp Kohlschreiber bids to extend his six-match winning streak when he faces Evgeny Korolev, one of three teenagers to advance to the second round here this year.

Chennai winner Mikhail Youzhny enters his second round match today against Andreas Seppi knowing that he has never lost to an Italian. Seppi is bidding to advance to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

Adelaide runner-up Jarkko Nieminen takes on fellow lefthander Jesse Levine, who won his first ever Grand Slam match on Monday. (ITF Media)
