Roddick faces Kohlscrhreiber at Australian Open; Nadal, Gasquet Also Scheduled

Rafael Nadal takes on a Frenchman for the second successive round at this year’s tournament – No. 28 seed Gilles Simon, one of a record-equalling six Frenchmen to reach the third round here.

Similarly, Andy Roddick faces a second successive German in Philipp Kohlschreiber. Kohlschreiber, one of two players in action today to have already won a title in 2008, having won at Auckland last week.

Chennai champion Mikhail Youzhny has a first career meeting with giant Croat Ivo Karlovic.

Two match-ups between players from France and Russia. No. 8 seed Richard Gasquet faces Igor Andreev, who has won three of their five previous meetings, while No. 4 seed Nikolay Davydenko takes on Marc Gicquel, one of three players aged 30 or over to advance to the third round.

Another veteran Stefan Koubek takes on Paul-Henri Mathieu, while Koubek’s fellow lefthander Jarkko Nieminen faces 2007 quarterfinalist Mardy Fish.
