Posted on May 17, 2009Russian Nikolay Davydenko leads a group of players who just can't get enough play on clay one week before the French Open, holding the top-seeded position at the Interwetten Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel.
Davydenko withdrew last week at Madrid in the first round, and has played only six tournaments this year due to a foot injury.
Other seeded players joining the Russian are Jurgen Melzer, Victor Hanescu, Fabrice "The Magician" Santoro, Martin "The Sure Bet" Vassallo Arguello, Marc Gicquel, Mikhail Youzhny and Dudi Sela.
Davydenko will be tested in his opener against up-and-coming Argentine Diego Junqueira, with the winner facing a possible second-round meeting with Daniel "Crazy Dani" Koellerer of Austria.
Other wildcards went to German Andreas Beck and Austrian Stefan Koubek.
Davydenko is the defending champion, last year outlasting No. 2-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco in three sets.
