Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic Among The Cincinnati Masters Entrants, But Who’s Really Playing?
The Cincinnati Masters event released the entry list for their re-located event which begins August 20 in New York.
Defending champions Daniil Medvedev and Madison Keys are expected, which isn’t much of a surprise. But the tournament included Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic along with Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov on the entry list.
Nadal has been practicing on clay and has not committed to going to the U.S. for tennis. But he chose to stay on the list while players like Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini and Stan Wawrinka are not on the entries.
Also opting out were all four Grand Slam winners from last year: Naomi Osaka, Ash Barty, Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu. Angelique Kerber and Elina Svitolina will also be absent.
Serena Williams, Sofia Kenin and Karolina Pliskova lead the way for the women.
Players who don’t play Cincinnati can still play the US Open. Those who do play Cincinnati, though, are likely to stay for the Open.
The US Open is rumored to be making a final decision on the tournament on Friday, but expectations are it will go ahead as scheduled. Entries for the event will be released early next week.
