Felix Auger-Aliassime collected his first title since winning Basel a year ago! The Canadian topped Turin hopeful Hubert Hurkacz in two breakers 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-5) for his fifth career title.

“I’m definitely back. I let my racquet talk. That’s always been the motto of my career. I’ve had the conviction that I can be a top player since I’m a kid, but there were many doubts this year about my performances and why,” Auger-Aliassime told the crowd. “I’m happy that I was able to prove to everybody that I still belong among the best players in the world, that I can play this level. I never doubted it, but it’s good to confirm it on the court.”

The two combined for 25 aces in the zero break match. Auger-Aliassime finished with 12 aces and never faced a break point, going 0-for-5 on break chances including to 15-40 looks at 4-all and 5-all.

The 23-year-old has now won his last 10 matches in Basel. He also shares the same birthday (August 8) as Roger Federer.

Hurkacz, who’s been Mr. Tiebreaker this year, missed a chance to close within 15 points of No. 8 Holger Rune in the Turin race. He also slips to 1-3 against Auger-Aliassime.

“I’m happy for your victory. Obviously I wish the result was different, but definitely you deserved it,” Hurkacz said on court. “It was definitely a tricky season for you but you’re an amazing player. You proved it here.”
