Novak Djokovic To Play Geneva In Stunning Move
With just six matches on clay under his belt, Novak Djokovic has taken a late wildcard into the Geneva event which begins on Sunday.
Djokovic rarely, if ever, plays an event the week before a Grand Slam. But this year, the Serb has yet to win a title and has shaken up his coaching box, recently parting with Goran Ivanisevic and his trainer.
Last week at the Rome Masters, Djokovic got whacked in the head with a water bottle and then looked off-balanced in a lopsided loss to Alejandro Tabilo.
Djokovic, who turns 37 on Wednesday, could face either Andy Murray or Yannick Hanfmann in his Geneva debut.
For a 250 event, the tournament is quite stacked with Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton among those in the Top 15 in attendance.
Of course all roads lead to the French Open which kicks off next Sunday. Djokovic will be the defending champion and by taking a wildcard, he’s all but saying he’s far from confident.
