Favorites Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev, Swiatek Advance At Miami Masters; Osaka v Garcia

More rains hit the Miami Masters but play finally got underway late in the afternoon and some 50+ matches were completed.
Tournament favorites Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek were all winners on the day.
Aryna Sabalenka did make it into the third round as the 2-time Australian Open champion fell to Anhelina Kalinina 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
Naomi Osaka had a huge win knocking out world No. 17 Elina Svitolina 6-2, 7-6(5). It was Osaka’s second Top 20 win in as many events.
“I definitely do think it was one of my best matches, if not the best match,” Osaka said afterward. “But I also want myself to play better and better every match. I feel like for me going into the match, I knew that she’s a great player, and I had no choice but to play really well if I wanted a chance to win.”
Osaka will now get a rematch with Carolina Garcia today. Garcia upended Osaka in Melbourne.
Former champion Sloane Stephens also lost as did Ons Jabeur who fell to Elina Avanesyan 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Elena Rybakina, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sakkari were also winners.
The men saw some seeds ousted as top Americans Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul all lost.
Stefanos Tsitsipas got shown the exits by Denis Shapovalov.
Today, the women finish the third round while the men begin theirs, with a few second round matches still to finish.
On-schedule Coco Gauff returns along with Iga Swiatek, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner. Former champion Andy Murray is also in action.
